The First things first project in partnership with foundation for professional development (FPD) took to HIV & AIDS awareness campaign at soshanguve TUT south campus yesterday. They hold this campaign on a three month basis. MR.TD Basini, event coordinator said, “we hold this on 3 month basis in guideline with national strategic plan (NSP).”
The project expected between 1000 and 1500 people or (TUT) Tshwane University of Technology students. The project’s expectations did not come true as less than 500 students came for testing and counselling. FPD member asked to be anonymous, said, “This response we are receiving is bad because TUT South Campus has many students and we expected them to come in numbers. It is disappointing.”
The small numbers that came to test felt good and excited after getting their new status, “I am feeling good, relaxed, excited and free and I know my way forward.” said Maila Machabaphala. Edzani Mulaudzi, B-tech in language practice, said that she knew her status but she wanted to confirm as it should be done every three months.
This campaign aimed at students but they also received outside community members coming to test. Isaac Nhlapo, Soshanguve resident Block GG said “I test every three months because it gives you relief to your life.
The HIV & AIDS awareness campaign will be back in August but venue has not yet found between Soshanguve TUT South or North Campus.
